V. Narayanasamy

Velu Narayanasamy became the 10th Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Puducherry, sworn in on 6 June 2016 and served until 22 February 2021.

He is a member of the Indian National Congress political party. He was born on 30-May-1947 to Velu and Iswary in Puducherry. He completed BA from Tagore Arts College, Puducherry in 1969, and BL from Madras Law College, Chennai in 1973, M.L from Annamalai University in 2008. He was the Advocate.

He started his political journey with the Indian National Congress(INC). In 1985, He was elected to Rajya Sabha. He was the Member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Home Affairs in 1986. From 1986-1996, he worked as a Member of the Committee on Government Assurances. In 1991, He Re-elected the Second time as Rajya Sabha Member. From 1994-1995, he nominated to the Panel of Vice. Narayanasamy was appointed as Chairman of Rajya Sabha from 1996-1997. In 2003, He was elected to Rajya Sabha(third term) and served as Member of the Court of the Puducherry University.

He was the Member of the Committee on Home Affairs in 2004 and Member of the Committee on Rules and Member of the Business Advisory Committee. He worked as a Member of the Committee on Petitions and a Member of the Committee on Public Accounts. Narayanasamy was appointed as Member of Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Urban Development and Member of Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Members of Parliament in 2006. He is a Member of the Congress Working Committee as well as the All India Congress Committee’s General Secretary.

In 2006, He was the Member of the Committee on Rules. He was served as Minister of State Planning and Parliamentary Affairs, Govt. of India in 2008. In 2009, He elected as the 15th Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Puducherry. Narayanasamy selected as Minister of State Prime Ministers Office, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Govt. of India. He took oath as Chief Minister of Puducherry in 2016. He was a player of Volleyball and Badminton.

In the field of Social and Cultural Activities, he has been the Ex-President of All India Backward Classes Employees Federation Example: Cultural Secretary, Constitution Club; He is the Member of India-China Society.
